Archibald Joseph "Archie" Mason Jr.
88 years of Springhill, formerly of Fredericton, NB, and
Halifax, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on
Saturday, March 16, 2013 at High Crest Nursing Home,
Springhill. Born in Parrsboro on September 10, 1924 to the
late Archibald "Archie" Sr. and Ethel (Morris) Mason moving
to Springhill as an infant and considered Springhill as his
home.
Archie joined the army in June 1943 serving in Canada and the
UK, discharged in 1946. He then took an accounting course in Toronto
and was later employed with The T. Eaton Company in Moncton,
NB. From 1948 to 1951 he was employed as assistant
manager and bookkeeper with Rushton's Groceteria in
Springhill. He worked in the Number 2 coal mine for
approximately one month before re-joining the Canadian Army.
He served in Korea and Egypt for a combined military service of 28
years.
He will be sadly missed by daughter;
Cynthia MacDonald, Springhill; sons, Archie III of Hackett's
Cove, NS; Murray of Geary, NB and Brian of Springhill; thirteen
grandchildren, several great grandchildren; several nieces and
nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife
the former Doris Elaine Cvitkovich and his second wife Phyllis
Kathleen Atkinson; brothers, Morris and Lloyd; sisters, Gladys Brown,
Gwendolyn Mason and Evelyn Rushton.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of A. H. Brown
Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane St., Springhill, (902 597 2361). A
Graveside Committal Service will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at
11:30 am in Hillside Cemetery, Springhill, with The Reverend Tory
Byrne officiating.
