WOOD - Dennis Ross aged 68 years of Black River Road, Springhill, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 3, 2006 in QEII Health Sciences Centre, V.G. Site, Halifax. Born in Springhill, he was a son of the Late Percy Alexander and Kathleen Gertrude (Moore) Wood.

He was a member of the Royal Canadian Navy for 10 years and another 30 years with Corrections Canada as a Correctional Officer retiring in 1996. His sharp and keen sense of humor made Dennis a legendary jokester with family, friends and co-workers.

He is survived by his companion of 43 years Eleanor Ross and the children he raised, Kenneth (Linda) Sterling and their children Scott, Tracey and granddaughter Ashley of Summerside, PEI and beloved daughter, Virginia "Ginny" (John Boddie) Sterling of Halifax; sister, Renovia (Ernest) Spence of Springhill; brothers, Morley (Anne) Wood and Dale (Esther) Wood, both of Springhill, Norman (Ellen) Wood of Oxford and Wayne (Iris) Wood of Woodstock, Ont. Grandchildren, Tammy Ross and Jamie (Renee) Ross and children, Maxime and Nicolas of Moncton, NB; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by step-son Bob Ross and nephews, Mark and Dennis Wood.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 7 to 9 pm tonight and 2 - 4 on Friday, October 6, 2006 in A. H. Brown Funeral Home, Springhill, followed immediately at 4:00 pm by a Memorial Funeral Service with The Reverend Perry Hanley officiating. Burial in Hillside Cemetery, Springhill.

In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Kidney Foundation of Nova Scotia or L.A. Animal Shelter would be appreciated.
