It is with deep sadness that we announce
that Melvin "Mel" Legere of
Springhill, NS lost his battle with cancer. On Friday, July 10th,
2026, surrounded by family, Mel passed away at the All Saints Hospital
at the age of 82.
Born in Springhill, he was one of eleven
children of the late Alfred and Margaret Elizabeth (Vienneau) Legere.
Mel was an avid outdoorsman who always looked forward to fishing, clam
digging, or spending time in the woods hunting. He enjoyed time at
Five Islands with his family, and always looked forward to taking his
grandchildren four-wheeling during their summers at the
beach.
Mel was a hard worker who served in the
Canadian Military for over 27 years. His Military career took him to
many places including Gagetown, Cyprus, Egypt, Germany, Greenwood,
Cornwallis before settling back down with his family in
Springhill.
He will be dearly missed by his loving
wife, Helen Mae (Fraser) Legere; children Michelle (Jamie) McKenna,
Amy (Chris Lewis) Legere, Shawn Legere; grandchildren Kelsie (Chanel),
Kaitlyn (Michael), Wesley (Jake), Chandler (Hailey), Chloe (Allen),
and Landon (Chloe); great grandchildren Aubree and Aspen; step
grandchildren Zachery (Lily), Cloë (Emmy-Lou and Annie-Marie)
and Emma; siblings Irene (Laurie) Varner, Bill (Linda) Legere, Linda
(Daryl) Schneider, Marilyn (Jim) Whitford; his in-laws Harold, Beth,
Audrey, Larry, as well as several nieces and nephews and his beloved
dogs Joey and Moka.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased
by his grandson Kyle; brothers, John, Jerry, Glen; sisters, Joyce,
Judy and Audrey "Lu Lu". In-laws, mother Helen, father
Wesley, brothers Arlie and Carl.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted
to A. H. Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane
Street, Springhill, (902 597 2361) where Visitation will take place on
Wednesday, July 15th from 6pm to 8pm and funeral service will be held
on Thursday, July 16th at 2:00 pm, officiated by Reverend Alexander
Cheprasov.
Burial will take place at the Rodney
Cemetery at a later date.
Papa, Kyle and Penny have gone
fishin'.
