Sibbeltje Riemersma (Mrs. Sippie), aged 85, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2026, at High Crest Nursing Home in Springhill, Nova Scotia.
Born on the 10th day of August, 1940, in Hindeloopen, Friesland, the Netherlands, Mrs. Sippie lived a life defined by love, kindness, and dedication to her family, friends, and the church. She immigrated to Canada from the Netherlands in 1960 to be with her spouse, Freerk (Fred) Riemersma. They worked on various farms in Amherst, and Truro, Nova Scotia, including Roger Bacon's and Les Brower's Farms, as farmhands. They soon started their own family and ventured off to Rodney, Nova Scotia, where they purchased their own farm. Throughout her life, she worked as a farmer alongside her husband, as a homemaker, and later in life as a PCW at MacAloney's and High Crest Nursing Home in Springhill, Nova Scotia. Mrs. Sippie was known for her warm heart, hard work, and dedication to her family, friends, and the church.
Mrs. Sippie found joy in spending time on the family farm, being with her family, gardening, going on yearly camping trips with the grandkids, playing darts and cards with friends in the community, volunteering with the church, and singing in the church choir. She also enjoyed spending time with the farm animals, especially her sheep and the farm dogs. She loved sitting on the front deck of their family home with Fred and watching the birds and neighbours as they went by.
She is survived by her spouse, Fred, of Rodney, NS, and their five children: Frances (Darren), of Bible Hill, NS; Steve (Vicki), of Rodney, NS; Lorraine (Craig), of New Annan, NS; Margaret (Dale), of Lake Echo, NS; and Connie (Wade), of Maple Ridge, BC. She is also survived by her 43 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild, whom she loved so dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jelle and Francina (Amie) Smid, and her two brothers, Hendrik and Cornelis (Cor) Smid, all of Hindeloopen, Friesland, the Netherlands.
Fred and his family want to thank Dr. Karivelil and all the staff on the Home Care Team, at All Saints Hospital, and at High Crest Nursing Home for the care and compassion they showed Mrs. Sippie. It made a difficult time gentler for all of us.
Arrangements are under the care and guidance of A.H. Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill, NS (902-597-2361). A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Family and friends will be notified at that time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada, a church of your choice, or that acts of kindness be performed in Mrs. Sippie's memory.
Sharing of memories and condolences may be sent to the family by visiting Sippie's online memorial at www.brownsfuneralhome.com or through the A. H. Brown Funeral Home Facebook Page.
Though deeply missed, Mrs. Sippie's love, compassion, and legacy will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
