Jenny Louise Burbine (Anne McElmon-Ellis)

The world became a little less sparkly when Jenny Louise Burbine "Anne" decided it was time to rest, surrounded by her loving family at the CRHCC in Amherst on October 1, 2025. She slipped away the way she lived her life; peacefully, lovingly, and with her people close by.

Anne made her entrance in Springhill, NS, in 1943, and was later welcomed into the warm, open arms of Lucy and Robert Rector. From that day on, the world had no idea what kind of wit, laughter, and unstoppable energy it was about to receive.

Anne had many loves in her life: bingo, music, long walks, beach drives, and belting out "Elvira" like she was the Oak Ridge Boys’ secret lead singer. But her greatest gift? Her ability to tell a joke. If you knew Anne, you knew laughter followed her everywhere; she could bring down a room with just one punch-line, and if you weren’t doubled over in stitches, you simply weren’t listening.

Anne’s story was one filled with love, laughter, and just enough sass to keep life interesting. She will be remembered not only for the joy she brought, but for the way she reminded all of us to never underestimate the power of a good laugh, a good song, and a good game of bingo.

She leaves behind her husband Gary Burbine, who could always count on her quick comebacks, sharp humor, and heart of gold.  Anne will be forever cherished by her devoted brother, Terry Turnbull (Pat).  Anne's proud legacy lives on in her children: Karen McElmon, Heather Ellis (Jerry), Kenny McElmon, Holly Ellis, Robin Ellis, and her son/grandson David Ellis. She was also the biggest fan of her grandchildren: Erin Ellis (Shane), Autumn Ellis, Kirstin Ellis, Tayea McElmon, Richard Bennett (Julie), Kevin Bennett, Sarah Bennett, and Connor Bennett. Her great grandchildren—Brayson, Brady, Peyton, Maci, Emma, and Jaxson; her family was the sparkle in her eyes.

She joins in heaven her first husband Elroy Ellis, her son David Ellis, her parents Lucy and Robert Rector, and her brother Tommy McElmon. Knowing Anne, the reunion is already full of music, stories, and more than a few one-liners.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of the A. H. Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill, (902 597 2361).  A public graveside service in the Hillside Cemetery, Springhill, will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2024 at 11 AM, all are welcome to attend.

The family would like to send heartfelt thanks to the CRHCC and the extraordinary ICU staff, who cared for Anne with the same love and dedication she poured into her own family.

If so desired, donations in Anne's memory may be made to Spina Bifida or Continuing Care.

Sharing of memories and condolences may be sent to the family by visiting Anne's online memorial at www.brownsfuneralhome.com or through the A.H. Brown Funeral Home Facebook Page.
