It is with deep sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Mary (Blanchard) Hopkins, age 90, of Springhill, NS. Mary passed away at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Tuesday, December 26, 2023.

Born in Springhill, she was a daughter of the late Herbert and Edith (White) Blanchard.

First and foremost, family was her love and priority. As a stay at home mom, she spent endless time making the family home a welcoming, loving, and safe haven for her husband, four daughters and grandchildren. Her love of family extended to all generations, and thanks to her efforts, her daughters and grandchildren enjoyed close relationships with multi-generational family members. Hosting family holidays and extended family gatherings were a great joy for her. She loved spending endless hours at the beach walking, swimming, and enjoying her family. She was a dedicated member of the Saint David's Presbyterian Church and was the last member of the St. David's Ladies Guild. She enjoyed being active from an early age; some of her favourites were ice skating (she wore the same ice racers for over 50 years), dancing, bowling and darts. She and Mac (Dad) were a recognized couple on the dance floor - jiving, waltzing; she on her own - line dancing and polka. She was a creative person who sewed, knitted, crocheted, tole painted, macraméd, worked with stained glass, and rug hooked. She enjoyed reading, all kinds of music, and playing cards with several groups over the years. She actively attended her children's and grandchildren's Christmas concerts, sporting events, and anything and everything important to them. When needed, she was there for a long talk or short one, a hug and/or kiss, or making a road trip. She was our biggest and proudest cheerleader and only a phone call away.

She will be dearly missed by her daughters, Marlene Hopkins, Denise Hopkins, Dawn Aubry all of Springhill, and Diane (Rick) Cecchetto of Amherst; 3 grandchildren, Jonathan Rolfe, Jarrod Rolfe (Paige Matthews) and Mikhayla Sweet (Simon Driscoll); great grandchildren Faith, Bowen, Cooper and Brooks; Stephen Rolfe; Michael (Anita) Aubry, Jeremy Aubry and their families; sisters Eleanor Hunter, Amherst and Catherine (Harvey) Davies, London, ON; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Alexander "Mac" Hopkins; son-in-law Jean Aubry; brothers Donald, Gerald and Arthur Blanchard; and several nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, VON Cumberland, Pictou Restorative Care, EHS (Paramedics), Colchester Regional Health Care Centre (Stroke Unit-Truro), All Saints Springhill Hospital (Dr. Karivelil & staff), PharmaChoice (Springhill).

Arrangements have been entrusted to A H Brown Funeral Service, 5 McFarlane St., Springhill, NS (902-597-2361) where visitation will take place on Friday, December 29, 2023 from 1 pm until 2 pm, followed immediately at 2 pm by her funeral service, K. Ruth Gamble, DLM officiating. Burial will take place in the Hillside Cemetery in the spring.
