It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Marilyn Ann Ward, age 90, of Springhill, NS. Marilyn passed away on Monday, October 23, 2023 at High Crest Nursing Home with family by her side.

Born in Springhill, NS, she was a daughter of the late Harmon and Mary (Chisholm) Carrigan.

Marilyn graduated from Springhill High School and then went on to graduate from Mount Saint Bernard Secretarial School in Antigonish, NS.

She held several jobs over the years including working at Cumberland Railway and Coal Co. in Springhill, Maritime Insurance Agencies in Parrsboro and Springhill, Sears Canada in Moncton, NB and Springhill and she worked at M&J Gifts in Springhill.

Marilyn was a member of the Saint-Jean-de-Brébeuf Catholic Church in LaSalle, Quebec for 15 years. She had more than 60 years as a member of the Catholic Women’s League and served as a past president and treasurer of the Catholic Women's League in Springhill as well as a long time member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and Eucharist Minister.

Being an only child, Marilyn really enjoyed the company of others and made friends easily with her warm heart and quirky, gentle wit. She was a truly great mom, considerate and kind. Although Alzheimer’s took her memories, she held onto her basic nature as many would still say that she was  "one of the nicest people they ever met".

Marilyn will be dearly missed by her daughters Frances, Cathy and Linda (Steve McKay); daughter-in-law Amanda; grandchildren Marc (Ronalea) Charbonneau, Manon (Dan) Spence, Matthew (Melissa) Ward, Luke Ward, John (Jenny) Ward, Robert Ward, Mary Ward, Lauren O’Reilly and Carrigan O’Reilly; great-granddaughters Ceilidh and Elowen Spence, great-grandsons Myles and Deklan Ward; and many nieces and nephews.  Marilyn will also be sadly missed by her close friend and cousin Gail Chisholm as well as her good friend Ardith Lowther.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Fred; sons Vince, Richard and Danny; and son-in-law Dave O’Reilly.

Arrangements are under the care and guidance of A H Brown Funeral Home 5 McFarlane St., Springhill, NS (902-597-2361) where a Funeral service will take place Thursday, October 26th, 2023 at 1 PM with Rev. Dr. Brian Spence officiating. Burial will follow in the North Street RC Cemetery.

For those who wish to do so, donations in memory of Marilyn may be sent to the Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation or Alzheimer's Society.

The family would like to give a very special thanks to the Continuing Care Assistants (CCAs) and the wonderful staff, nurses and doctors at Highcrest.
