Doris
Anita (Steeves) Dickson
On August 24, 2023, Doris went to be with her Lord and
Saviour.
Doris was born June 6, 1936 in Salisbury, NB, the third child
of Kenneth and Rose (Gallant) Steeves and the 8th generation
descendant of Henrick and Regina Stief and later changed to Steeves of
Germany who immigrated in 1749. Of these seven sons, Doris descended
from the son of Fredrick. When its chapter was granted on May 27,
1967, the Steeves family became the first incorporated family in North
America.
Doris was baptized in the Springhill United Baptist Church on
December 29, 1963 by the Rev. Stanley Harrison and served in several
capacities in the intervening years.
She enjoyed sewing, crafts, and made several quilts. She
enjoyed writing poetry and received an award from California in
recognition of her work. She was in her element when
reading.
She is survived by son, Tom Dickson, Springhill, NS;
daughter, Gail (Jim) Fraser, Dartmouth; granddaughters Katie (Daniel)
Fraser-Gould, Ottawa, ON, Elizabeth Fraser, Red Deer, AB, Emily
Fraser, Halifax; great grandchildren Charles Fraser-Gould, Matilda
"Tillie" Fraser-Gould; sisters Grace (Gary) Morris, Amherst,
NS, Shirley (Lloyd) Leadbetter, Walton, NS, Ernie Steeves,
Tumbleridge, BC, Gary (Bev) Steeves, Southbrook, NS, with whom Doris
made her home since 1995 until April 28, 2022, when she became a
resident of Centennial Villa, and then Gables Lodge. She will also be
missed by several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Doris was predeceased by her parents; her precious daughter,
Brenda Joy Brown in 2003; daughter in law Kim Dickson; siblings Ruby
(Ronald) Randle, Wayne (Sharon) Steeves, Bernice Wood, Ann Ayotte and
June Grinhan.
Forever helping, Doris donated her body to science to help
with research.
A special thank you to Dr. Dean Harrison, Amherst who cared
for Doris over several years, as well as to Centenial Villa and Gables
in Amherst for their kindness and care.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of the
