It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Gerald Lavers O'Brien, age 84, of Springhill, NS formerly of Southampton, NS. Gerald passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre.

Born in East Mapleton, he was a son of the late Lester and Mary (Lavers) O'Brien.

He worked for Pepsi and Maritime Beverages for over 20 years before opening a convenience store with his wife Eleanor on the Salisbury Rd, in New Brunswick. The family spent many summer weekends camping and often spending vacations on road trips with the camper attached. During the winter months, when they closed the store for the day, you could find him, Eleanor, his son Darrell, and anyone else who wanted to join, snowmobiling to unwind.

He was very much family oriented and when he retired, he moved to Southbrook and the home where he grew up and spent many happy days with his best buddy and dog, BJ. He loved Sunday drives and would often visit his sister Audrey in Parrsboro to enjoy a nice meal and be in the company of family.

He is survived by his wife Eleanor, daughters Sandra Ripley (Amherst), Susan Mullin (Moncton), and a son Gerry O’Brien (Woodinville, WA, USA); brother, Ralph O'Brien (Amherst), along with many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Olive Quinn and Audrey Redmond, three brothers Leslie, Kitchener, and Keith, and a son Darrell.

Arrangements are under the direction of the A. H. Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill, (902 597 2361) where a Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, April 1, 2023 from 2 PM until 4 PM.

Donations in memory of Gerald may be made to the Kidney Foundation or Alzheimer Association.
