It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of
Ruth G. Merlin, 99 years, of Amherst and
formerly of Springhill, on Sunday, July 10, 2022 in the Cumberland
Regional Health Care Centre, Nappan. Born in Springhill, on September
29, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Arthur H. and Pearl E.
(Gibson) Brown.
In her younger years, Ruth loved to skate and continued to do
so into her sixties. She also owned her own camp at Sutherland's Lake
where she spent many years with friends and a very special friend,
Rita Phillips, who also owned a camp at the lake. Ruth was also a
member of the Springhill Golf Club all of her life. She married the
"love of her life" Carl Merlin and had three sons, Peter,
Paul and "Chuck" (Charles).
She started working for her father, A. H. Brown, doing the
books at the A H Brown Funeral Home, Springhill, later becoming a
full-fledged Funeral Director and Embalmer working alongside her
brother Winfield Brown and nephew David Brown.
She was 99 years old when she passed only a few short months
from 100.
She is survived by her son Peter (Dolly) Merlin, Springhill;
grandchildren, Holly, Angela, Kent, Forest, Anna, Jason, Julian,
Eyzlyn and Tim; great granchildren, Quinten, Olivia, Sarah, Conner,
Jordan, Ethan, Chase, Mitchel, Danielle, Taylor, MacKenzie, Josh,
Kristen, Deon, Cassie and Hayleigh; great great grandchildren, Ava,
Drew, Ezra and Maila; Daughter in law, Gloria Merlin, Greenville
Station; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Carl Merlin; sons, Paul
Merlin and Charles "Chuck" Merlin; brothers, Horace G. Brown
and Winfield H. Brown; a sister, Olwyn Kier.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of
A. H. Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane
Street, Springhill, (902 597 2361). A visitation will be held in the A
H Brown Funeral Home, Springhill, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm on Friday, July
15, 2022 followed immediately at 2:00 pm by the Funeral Service with
K. Ruth Gamble DLM officiating. Burial will take place in Hillside
Cemetery, Springhill.

choice.
