It is with sadness we announce the passing of
Minerva Elizabeth Boran 106 years, on
Tuesday, June 15, 2021 in Gables Lodge, Amherst, NS.
Born in Springhill, she was a daughter of the late E. S. and
Catherine (McManaman) Boran.
Minerva attended Springhill schools until grade 12 when she
attended Amherst high School in 1932. She wanted to become a teacher
and went to Normal College in Truro, returning to Springhill to teach
elementary school children.
From 1943 to the end of the war in 1945 she was a member of
the Canadian Women's Army Corps. After the war she attended Acadia
University graduating with a Master Degree in
Education.
She taught school in Kentville/Wolfville area after
University, and than traveled to England to attend London University,
however decided she did not want a PHD as she would not be able to
teach young people. After leaving London University she taught
elementary school near London for two years. She returned to Canada
and taught elementary classes in the Kentville area and was a school
principal.
During her year in Kentville, Minerva traveled extensively to
Asia, Africa and Europe. She retired at age 65 in 1980 and retained
her apartment in Kentville while traveling to Springhill to be with
her father. Approximately 1992 she relocated to Springhill to enjoy
the family home and her family.
Minerva enjoyed reading and fine music and she was a very
special interest in the Star Trek program and outer space. She is a
true 'DIE HARD STAR TREK TREKKIE'. As a sports fan she always enjoyed
watching the Blue Jays and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was
predeceased by sister Muriel Nelson, Springhill; brothers Carlyle
"Bud" of Springhill, Lowell of Amherst.
