It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Geraldine Grace McDermott, age 95, of South Brook, NS. Geraldine passed away on Friday, June 11, 2021 at All Saints Hospital, Springhill.

Born in Springhill, she was a daughter of the late Amos and Flora Belle (MacEachern) McNutt.

Geraldine was a strong willed and determined woman. She was a member of the Mapleton United Church where she served as a Steward, Sunday School Teacher and Choir Member for many years. She was a Cub Leader when her family was younger. She loved her flowers, especially geraniums, time spent outdoors 4-Wheeling, and creating many crafts, including knitting and crocheting. She and her sister Helen enjoyed their many shopping trips, and every drive included a stop at a yard sale, plus a meal out. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren who were always treated to a cookie or sweet. Over the years, she was often a caregiver to many of her family members, and her time with them was always filled with love and attention.

Geraldine will be dearly missed by son, Layton (Anita) McDermott, South Brook, NS and daughter, Marian (Bill) McLeod, South Farmington, NS; grandchildren Colin (Shannon), Andrew, and Lacey (Jonah), Angela (Scott), Joel (Katie), Bryce (Ashlee), and Lindsay (Tobi); great grandchildren Liam and Riley, Anna and Mae; sister, Helen Clarke, Springhill, NS.

She was predeceased by her husband Albert in 2001; brothers, Jim, Walter and Hilton; sisters, Alva McPhee and Connie Dethy; dear friend Mike Smith.

Arrangements have been entrusted to A. H. Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill, (902 597 2361). A graveside service will be held in the Mapleton Cemetery at a later date.

Geraldine's family want to offer a special heartfelt thanks to her home care team, and to the hospital staff who cared for her during her last months.

Those wishing to make a donation in Geraldine's memory may do so to a charity of their choice.
