It is with great sadness that the family announces the
passing of Carl M. Porter Sr. of 1048
Cove Road, Oxford, NS, who was called home to God on Friday, June 26,
2015.
Born in Springhill on February 18,
1936. He was the son of the late Thomas and Annie (Fisher)
Porter and was the last surviving member of his immediate
family.
Carl attended the Springhill and Sydney
school systems. Carl's working years were with the railroad,
coal miner, taxi driver, heavy equipment operator, truck driver, ice
maker at the Mayflower and the Town of Springhill until his
retirement.
He will be sadly and
lovingly missed and remembered by his wife of 51 years,
Marie. His son Carl Jr. (Tammy) of Springhill; daughter Anna
(John) Alberta, and son Thomas (Darlene) of Oxford.
Grandchildren, Matthew, Jessica, Kristie, Lucas and Alaina.
Several great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Carl is predeceased by a grandson, Thomas, a sister,
Stella and a brother Charles. Carl was a member of All
Saints Anglican Church. Carl loved life, his family, friends
and a good joke.
Carl was a member of Philae
Shriners, Royal Canadian Legion #17. Orange Lodge, Buffalo
Lodge, Pioneer St., Club, Past Chancellor, Knights of Pythias #5 and
Knights #26 of Oxford, Seniors Centre, Masons and past volunteer fire
fighter in Brooklyn, Hants Co. He loved playing cards,
watching hockey and ball, darts and his summer trips every year to
PEI. But most of all he loved his family and friends.
Cremation has taken place under the care and
direction of A H Brown Funeral Home (902-597-2361). There
will be no service by request. Graveside service will be
held at a later date.
