It is with sadness we must announce the passing of Ralph
Gleason Henwood, age 92, of Springhill. Ralph passed away at Gables
Lodge on Thursday, February 19, 2015. Born in Wharton, NS,
he was a son of the late Thomas and Ethel (Graham)
Henwood.
He moved to Springhill Junction where he received his
schooling, later moving to Springhill, where he worked in the coal
mines from 1939 - 1958. After the mine disaster, he moved with his
family to Pointe Aux Tremble, Quebec, where he worked for Texaco Oil
Refinery until his retirement in 1979. Following the death of his
wife, the former Susan Welch, he returned to Nova Scotia to reside in
Parrsboro and later moved to Springhill.
He will be sadly missed by his second wife the former June
Jackson; daughter, Ellen Henwood, Lower Sackville, NS, and son Stephen
(Solange) of Pointe Aux Trembles, PQ; sisters, Muriel Brine, Amherst,
Christine Summers, Oxford and Olive Henwood, Burnaby, BC; brothers,
Harold (Bessie) Henwood, Springhill and Cyril (Eileen) Henwood of
Amherst; grandchildren, Timothy Poirier, Halifax, and Rosemary
Poirier, Calgary, step daughters, Judith Laurie and Crystal Dunn both
of Springhill, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife Susan Welch, a daughter,
Barbara Ann and a brother Victor.
Arrangements have been entrusted to A. H. Brown
Funeral Service, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill, (902 597 2361). There
will be no visitation or funeral service. Burial in Hawthorn-Dale
Cemetery, Pointe Aux Trembles, Quebec at a later date.
If so desired, donations in Ralph's memory may be made to the
Alzheimer's Society or Canadian Cancer Society.
