It is with deep sadness that we must announce the sudden
passing of Roderick Carl "Rod" Potter, age 53, of
Springhill. Rod passed unexpectedly on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at
his home. Born in Springhill, he was a son of Earlene (Beaton) Potter
and the late Kenneth Potter.
Rod started his career at the IGA as a young boy and stayed
there for many years. He obtained his B.A. and B Ed. at Dalhousie,
then Mount Allison University, then taught in various schools around
Cumberland County. He later went to work with the Department of
Housing in Amherst. A selfless man, he would give the shirt off his
back to anyone in need. He loved "going to the boat",
swimming at the beach, riding his bicycle, and enjoyed cooking a good
meal for his family and friends, which were truly the centre of his
life.
In addition to his mother, he will be dearly missed by his
wife Jo-Ann (Lowther); two sons Kenneth, and Joseph (Laura); brother
Eric Potter; sister Virginia Potter, Cathy Potter and Melissa (Chris)
Ellwood; nephews Nicholas, Matthew and Jack; several great nieces and
nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother Joseph "Joey"
Potter.
Arrangements have been entrusted to A H Brown Funeral
Service, 5 McFarlane St. Springhill, NS (902-597-2361) where
visitation will take place on Tuesday from 7 to 9 pm. The funeral
service will take place at Browns Funeral Home on Wednesday, December
10, 2014 at 2 pm, Pastor Paul Berry officiating. Burial will follow in
the Mapleton Cemetery at a later date.
