McKay, David Lee "Punky", aged 73, of Springhill,
NS, passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at the All Saints
Hospital, Springhill.
Born in
Springhill, he was a son of the late Joseph and Lillian (Wark)
McKay.
Punky grew up in Springhill, and
attended the Teachers College in Truro. He began his
teaching career in Ontario, and later in the Springhill
Schools. He then continued teaching at Dorchester and
Springhill Penitentiaries from 1964 until his retirement in
1995.
He was active in many sports, including
softball, golf and darts. He was also fond of
Bridge. Punky made many close friends while he was a member
of the North Nova Scotia Regiment. He joined the Royal
Canadian Legion, Branch #17 and later served as President.
Dave spent many happy summers with his wife and children at their
Heather's Beach cottage. Hunting seasons were enjoyed with
friends at the camp. In his later years, he
enjoyed daily car rides with friends and family. He truly
"lived life to the fullest".
Punky
married his loving wife Roberta "Bobbie" of Springhill in
1961 and raised their two children; son Stephen (Linda), Springhill
and daughter Tammy (Mike) Witroway, Brampton, ON; grandchildren
Matthew and Luke.
Arrangements have been
entrusted to A H Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane St., Springhill, NS
(902-597-2361) where visiting hours will take place on Sunday from
7:00 to 9:00 pm. Funeral service will take place on Monday,
August 25, 2014 at 2:00 pm from A H Brown Funeral Home, Springhill,
with The Reverend Marion Lloy officiating.
