Ivy Doris Bird, age 91 years of Halifax and
formerly of Springhill, passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2010 in QE
II Health Sciences Centre, (HI Site) Halifax. Born in Springhill, she
was a daughter of the Late James and Florence Pettigrew.
Ivy is survivved by her daughter, Ruth (John) Geddes
of Halifax; daughter-in-law, Jean Bird of Dartmouth; grandchildren
Steven (Jennifer Melanson) Bird, Carolyn Bird and David Bird, all of
Dartmouth, Heather (Mike Murphy) Geddes, Brooklyn, NS, Rob Geddes,
Edmonton AB, Laura (Adrian Murray) Geddes, Erlangen Germany; great
grandchildren, Bradley, Taylor, Kaitlin, Maia, Jordan, Madison and
Chloe; sister Evelyn Canning, Springhill; brother Lloyd (Phyllis)
Pettigrew, Halifax; sister-in-law Louise Pettigrew, Springhill; she
was also loved by many nieces and nephews.
Ivy
was predeceased by her beloved son, James on March 16, 2010;
2 infant children; sisters, Viola Rector, Ethel Jewkes, Hazel
Lusignan; brothers Arthur and George Pettigrew.
Ivy was employed for many years at Jewkes Bros Grocery Store in
Springhill. Due to illness she moved to Halifax in July of 2000, but
her heart always remained in Springhill. In earlier years she was an
adherent of St. Andrews-Wesley United Church, a member of the Eastern
Star and Pythian Sisters. She enjoyed bowling, card club, and was a
wonderful cook. Ivy will be forever remembered for her loving heart,
kindness, support and pride in her children, grandchildren and great
grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place under
the direction of A. H. Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane Street,
Springhill, (902 597 2361), from where visitation will be held on
Thursday, September 2, 2010, from 1-2 pm , followed immediately by a
Memorial Service at 2 pm, Reverend David Lloyd Pearce officiating.
Burial will take place in the Hillside Cemetery.
