It is with sadness that we announce the
peaceful passing of Leota Juanita Cooper,
age 88, of Springhill, NS. Leota passed away on Tuesday,
March 17, 2020 at the High Crest Nursing Home.
Born in Springhill, NS, she was the
daughter of William and Philena (Mills) Reynolds.
Leota was a member of the St. Andrews
Wesley United Church. She was born and raised in Springhill
NS, going on to live in Bedford NS, and Ontario before heading back to
Springhill in 1963. She had many professions, starting with
the Telephone office in Springhill, teaching in a one room schoolhouse
in Glenville and then joining the airforce as a controller assistant,
which she loved. She also graduated with a teaching degree
from the Normal College in Truro. She was married in 1955
and left the service in 1956. She had two children, a
daughter, Sandy and son, Jim. In Hamilton, Ont. she worked
as a Practical Nurse in a nursing home and then returned to Nova
Scotia where she taught at the School for the Deaf in
Amherst. Shortly after, she began teaching in Springhill in
various different grades and schools. She retired from
teaching in 1992. Leota had a passion for travel and
journeyed to many places around the globe. She was always
ready for another adventure!
She is survived by her daughter Sandy
(Scott) Smith; grandsons Robert and Wesley; son Jim (Sherry) Cooper;
grandson Jamie; sister Margaret (Bill) Brown; sister in law Olive
Reynolds and many nieces and nephews. Also her one cat Cutie, whom she
adored.
She was predeceased by her parents as
well as brothers, William, Murray, Loyal and Jimmy.
Thank you to all have assisted in Mom's
care, Home Care, VON, hospitals and High Crest Nursing Home. Visits
from family and friends were greatly enjoyed by Mom, as well as the
frequent visits while working at High Crest from her niece Bonnie, who
could always get a laugh out of her.
Arrangements have been made under the
care of A. H. Brown Funeral Home, 5
McFarlane St., Springhill (902-597-2361). Due to recent
events with COVID 19, her Funeral Service will be held for Family Only
with the public being invited to participate via the Live Broadcasting
on her obituary through the funeral home website on Saturday, March
21, 2020 at 2 pm, Rev. Wayne McCarther officiating. Burial
will take place in the spring in the Hillside Cemetery,
Springhill.
