It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Leota Juanita Cooper, age 88, of Springhill, NS.  Leota passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at the High Crest Nursing Home.

Born in Springhill, NS, she was the daughter of William and Philena (Mills) Reynolds.

Leota was a member of the St. Andrews Wesley United Church.  She was born and raised in Springhill NS, going on to live in Bedford NS, and Ontario before heading back to Springhill in 1963.  She had many professions, starting with the Telephone office in Springhill, teaching in a one room schoolhouse in Glenville and then joining the airforce as a controller assistant, which she loved.  She also graduated with a teaching degree from the Normal College in Truro.  She was married in 1955 and left the service in 1956.   She had two children, a daughter, Sandy and son, Jim.  In Hamilton, Ont. she worked as a Practical Nurse in a nursing home and then returned to Nova Scotia where she taught at the School for the Deaf in Amherst.  Shortly after, she began teaching in Springhill in various different grades and schools.  She retired from teaching in 1992.  Leota had a passion for travel and journeyed to many places around the globe.  She was always ready for another adventure!

She is survived by her daughter Sandy (Scott) Smith; grandsons Robert and Wesley; son Jim (Sherry) Cooper; grandson Jamie; sister Margaret (Bill) Brown; sister in law Olive Reynolds and many nieces and nephews. Also her one cat Cutie, whom she adored.

She was predeceased by her parents as well as brothers, William, Murray, Loyal and Jimmy.

Thank you to all have assisted in Mom's care, Home Care, VON, hospitals and High Crest Nursing Home. Visits from family and friends were greatly enjoyed by Mom, as well as the frequent visits while working at High Crest from her niece Bonnie, who could always get a laugh out of her.

Arrangements have been made under the care of A. H. Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane St., Springhill (902-597-2361).  Due to recent events with COVID 19, her Funeral Service will be held for Family Only with the public being invited to participate via the Live Broadcasting on her obituary through the funeral home website on Saturday, March 21, 2020 at 2 pm, Rev. Wayne McCarther officiating.  Burial will take place in the spring in the Hillside Cemetery, Springhill.
