It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth "Betty" Frances Carter, 88, of Springhill, NS. Betty was predeceased by her husband and soulmate of 59 years; Charles "Doug" Carter.

Born and raised in Springhill, Betty was the daughter of the late Florian and Alberta Schiefer.  After Doug’s passing, Betty moved to Dartmouth to be closer to her family.

Betty was a housewife and stay at home mom until her children were grown; she then entered a retail and business course. Following the completion of her course, she worked in the industry for approximately 20 years before moving back to Springhill, where she was employed at the Life Saver Plant in Amherst for another 8 years. She was an adherent of the St. Andrews-Wesley United Church, Springhill; member of the Drama Group and the Springhill Senior Citizens; past member of the Rotary Club and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was noted for her green thumb and gardening skills.

Betty is survived by her son Michael (Thelma) Carter and daughter Laurie (Richard) Hawboldt; Lower Sackville.  Brothers: Doug (Sharon) Schiefer; Springhill and Lorne (Willena) Schiefer; Parrsboro.  Grandchildren:  Steven (Charlene) Carter, Andrew (Jamie) Carter, Gregory (Amanda) Hawboldt and Lisa (Corey) Webster as well as her many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of the A H Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill, (902 597 2361) where a celebration of life will be held on Friday, September 6, 2019 at 11 am, followed by burial in the Hillside Cemetery, Springhill, with The Reverend Wayne McCarther officiating. A time of tea and fellowship will be held at the funeral home after the burial. In keeping with Betty's wishes, there will be no visitation.

Betty’s family would like to extend their thanks to Betty’s extended family for making her feel like one of their own. Also, a special thank you goes out to her many friends as well as the staff at Parkland at the Lakes. You allowed her to live her life to the fullest.

For those wishing to do so, donations in memory of Betty may be made to the St. Andrew's-Wesley United Church or to the donor's choice.
