Stephen Foster "Steve The Barber" Martin, 63, of Amherst, and formerly of Springhill, passed away at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 after a battle with cancer.  Born in Springhill, Steve was a son of the late Archibald William and Alberta Maude (Gabriel) Martin.

Steve was a barber for 35 years operating shops in Amherst and Springhill.  He was community minded and always had time for a chat.  He enjoyed sightseeing and long country drives.  Steve was an avid musician who enjoyed singing and playing the guitar.  He had a deep interest in local history, and in particular, the Springhill area and its coal mines.

Steve was a sport fan and in particular a strong supporter of the Toronto Blue Jays, The Toronto Maple Leafs and the Amherst Ramblers.

Steve was known for his keen sense of humour and his positive outlook on life, which he kept until the very end.  He had a strong faith in the Lord which he often shared with others on Facebook and in conversation.  He will be dearly missed by everyone.

Steve is survived by his partner, Joanne Estabrooks, Amherst; his son, Richard Martin (Lenore Kenney), Truro; his daughter, Stephenie Davis (Michael Bragg), Truro; four grandchildren, Breanna, Jaylah, Zander, and Tegan; sisters, The Rev'd Canon Bonita LeBlanc (The Rev'd Robert LeBlanc), Florenceville, NB, Twila Deschambault, Truro, as well as his nephews, Joe Deschambault and Daniel Martin.

Besides his parents, Steve was predeceased by his brother A.G. Daniel Martin.

Visitation for Steve will be held on Friday, July 26, 2019 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the All Saints Anglican Church, Springhill, with a service to follow on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at 2 pm.  Interment to follow in the Hillside Cemetery, Springhill.  The Rev. Dr. Brian Spence presiding. 

Donations may be sent to the Cumberland Hospice Society or the Canadian Cancer Society.
