It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of William Gordon Canning, age 91 years of Springhill, NS. Gordon passed away peacefully with family by his side on Monday, December 10, 2018 in High Crest Nursing Home, Springhill, NS.

Born in Leamington, NS, he was a son of the late George and Gertrude (Brace) Canning.

Gordon was employed by Cecil Letcher and Sons Chevrolet dealership for 44 years, first as a mechanic and then as service manager, retiring in 1986. He married the love of his life, Shirley Marshall on June 4, 1949 and they celebrated 67 years of marriage before her passing in 2016. He loved music and playing his guitar. He especially enjoyed spending time at the cottage at Linden Beach.

Gordon will be sadly missed by his sons Allan (Florence) Canning, Springhill, Cleve (Gale) Canning, New Glasgow, NS; daughter Linda (Doug) Stockall, Moncton, NB; seven grandchildren, Jerry (Jodi), Jason (Amanda), Tim (Beth), Katrina, Trevor, Stuart (Katrina) and Allison (Daniel); three great grandchildren and one great great grandson; sisters Bessie (Harold) Henwood, Bonnie (late Carson) Smith; brother Ted (Mary) Canning.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Shirley, sisters Ruth Millard and Barb Smith.

Arrangments have been entrusted to A H Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane St., Springhill, NS (902-597-2361) where visiting hours will take place on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 from 6 to 8 pm. Gordon's funeral service will be on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at 2 pm from A H Brown Funeral Home, Rev. Wayne McCarther officiating. Burial will take place in the Leamington Cemetery in the spring.

Gordon's family wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of High Crest Nursing Home for the quality of care and compassion he received during the past two and a half years.
