The death of Gary Douglas
Smith, 75, of Springhill, occurred on Thursday
September 6, 2018 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care
Centre. Born September 21, 1942, Gary was a son of the late
Charles and Thelma (Wiseman) Smith.
Gary had been a snowplow operator, a
welder, and a barber, as well as having contracted blueberry
fields. He was very mechanically inclined, having once built
his own tractor which is used to this very day. He was a past member
of the Royal Canadian Legion and enjoyed trapping, hunting, fishing,
and the outdoors. Gary was a devoted and caring husband,
father and grandfather.
He will be sadly missed by his wife,
Loretta (nee Holweg); son, Randy (Gwen Van Metre) Smith, Fort
McMurray; daughter, Bonnie (Jack) Maddison, granddaughter, Krista
Maddison both of Springhill; brothers, Larry (Marie), of
Kersley, BC, Harold "Hallie" and Burton both of Springhill;
a sister, Audrey Spence, Amherst, as well as several nieces and
nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased
by a granddaughter, Lindsay Jean Maddison; brothers, Cleve, Clyde,
Ronald, Norman, George and Robert, and sisters, Carol, Gladys and
Edith.
Arrangements have been entrusted to

Home, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill, NS (902 597 2361)
where visiting hours will take place on Sunday, September 9, 2018 from
1 pm until the time of the funeral at 3 pm. Rev. Wayne
McCarther officiating. Burial will take place in the Rodney Cemetery.

to the Heart And Stroke Foundation or a charity of the donor's
choice.
