It is with heavy hearts that we announce
the passing of George G. Matthews, age 71
of Springhill on Wednesday February 21, 2018 at the
Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre. Born in Springhill, he was a
son of the late, Chester & Evelyn ( King)
Matthews.
He worked in the mines in his younger
years and owned and operated J.P's Taxi in Springhill. He worked at
Oxford Frozen Food for 20 years and for the past 10 years was retired.
He loved spending time at his camp and with his family and friends.
George also enjoyed the company of his loving companion, his pride and
joy, Lacey. " His greatest love was his love of dancing, and
could he dance!"
He will be sadly missed by his
girlfriend, Barb Canton; son, Sonny Matthews, Springhill,
daughter Jess Colborne (Brian) Amherst, step daughters, Michelle
(Ryan) Mattix, Springhill, Dawn Doucet (Steve) Lawrencetown,
grandchildren, Shelby, Chesley, Spencer, Molly, Hunter and Charlie,
Jordyn and Reegan, Sean, Brandan and Maddison and Kris. Sisters,
Audrey MacDonald (Dennis) Springhill, and Jessie "Pinkie"
(Danny) Hunter, Pugwash, great grandchildren, Cassia, Mason and Felix,
many nieces and nephews that he cherished.
He was predeceased by his wife the
former Brenda Mattinson, brothers, Fraser "Butch", Bedford
and Darrell.
Arrangements are under care and
direction of A.H. Brown Funeral Home, 5
McFarlane St., Springhill, NS (902-597-2361). The family will receive
visitors on Monday, February 26, 2018 from 12-2 p.m. with a funeral
service to follow at 2 p.m. Burial to take place in the
Hillside Cemetery later in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be made to the Springhill A.A. Hall, or the charity
of your choice.
