Surrounded by his loving family, William "Bill" Thomas Melanson, 54, of Point de Bute, NB, and formerly of Springhill, NS, passed away peacefully at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Saturday, July 22, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Springhill, Bill was a son of James "Pokey" Melanson and the late Jewell (nee Field) Melanson.
Bill worked in the meat department of Sobeys in Amherst for over thirty years. He dearly enjoyed his job and, if asked, would say he most missed the daily interactions he had with all the people. He was an avid outdoors man who loved his canoe, as well as hunting, fishing, gardening, and vacations in the south. He enjoyed curling and most recently attending the Brier with his father and family in Newfoundland.
Bill deeply loved his friends and family, including his children and especially his grandchildren.
He will be dearly missed by his children, Matthew, of BC and Marcia (Steven) White, NL, and their mother Brenda Crossman; his loving grandchildren; his wife, Lorraine and her children, Colin, Amy, and Joseph, as well as step-grandchildren; his father, James "Pokey" Melanson; his siblings, Rick (Marilyn), Sherry (Kevin) Roy, Jim (Sandra) and Kevin (Chrissy); his dog Charlie, as well as several aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins and close friends.
Besides his mother he was predeceased by his half-brother, David.
Arrangements are under the care and guidance of A.H. Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill (902-597-2361) from where a time of visitation will be held on Monday, July 24, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A celebration of Bill's life will be held from the funeral home on Tuesday at 2 pm with a burial to follow in the Hillside Cemetery. Archdeacon Glenn Eason presiding.
Donations in memory of Bill may be made to the GOVRC (Springhill) or the Palliative Care of the Sackville Memorial Hospital.
