Cecil "Dexter" Symes 97 years of age, of Pugwash, passed away on Monday, July 3, 2017 at the East Cumberland Lodge. Born in Barronsfield, Cumb. Co., he was a son of the late John William and Ester (Smith) Symes.

Cecil graduated from school in 1937 and joined the army with distinction and special services for his country in the RSASC, 8th Canadian Infantry Brigade, Canadian Army. Cecil returned from serving in 1945 to the farm in Barronsfield where he continued to farm with his mother and sister. In Dec 11, 1956 he was married to Freda Rector.Dexter was a past member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 14 River Hebert.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He will be sadly missed by his, daughter in law Greta (Ralph) Brundage, Fort Lawrence, N.B.; a grandson Garth Symes of AB; a step grandson Paul Rector of ON and a step granddaughter; Karen Rector of ON, great grandson, Landon; several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he  was predeceased by his wife the former Freda Maude Rector son, Richard Symes, step son Douglas Rector; infant daughter, Heather Ann; brothers, C. Waldo, Percival, Frederick and Stanwood; sister, Marion.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of A. H. Brown Funeral Home, ( 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill, 902 597 2361).  A Graveside Committal Service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, July 14th, in the King Seaman Cemetery, Minudie, N. S.
