It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Norman Fulmer Harrison, age 90, of Springhill.  Norman passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 14, 2017 at the High Crest Nursing Home.

Born in Athol, NS, he was a son of the late John Fulmer Harrison and Georgie Hill (Morris Harrison) Lodge.

Norman received his early education in Southampton and his high school diploma in Springhill. He studied education at the Nova Scotia Normal College and taught for 3 years, first at the Chignecto School and then at the East Mapleton School. He worked one year in a factory in Toronto and then helped his brothers Raymond in a lumber mill and George with a garage before starting to work at Enamel/Heating as a Tool and Die Maker. While at Enheat he was sent to Montreal to work on a major aircraft contract. He ended his career as a maintenance civil engineer at Northern Telecom where he was recognized for designing a patented tool.

Norman was a member of the Southampton Knights of Pythias, a founding member of the Athol Co-op, a long time member of the Mapleton United Church of Canada, a life time member of the Canadian Liberal Party, a long-serving leader of the Ro-Win-Lea 4-H club, actively involved with Home and School while his children were school-age, and a member of the Genealogical Association of Nova Scotia. Norman supported several community institutions and charities throughout his life. He had many interests, such as playing 45's, gardening, hiking,  traveling, genealogy, and local and global history.  He also stayed busy with his blueberry, maple sugar and forestry work.

His memory will be cherished by his children Patricia (Don) Gooding, Donnie (Cathy) Harrison, Betty Harrison, Ruth (John) Whelan and Geraldine (Kevin) Harrison-MacLean; his nine grandchildren Christopher Gooding, Donald Gooding, Matthew Harrison, Charlotte Harrison, Joshua Whelan, Erin Whelan, Meghan Whelan, Mackenzie Rogers, and Emerald Gallant;  his five great grandchildren River, Luke, Noah, Anesia and Arrick; his numerous nieces and nephews; and his second wife Margaret (Legere) Harrison.

Norman was predeceased by his wife Joyce Marie (Willigar) Harrison, his daughter Jean Marie Harrison, his brothers George, Arthur, Raymond and Reginald, and his only sister Jennie (Reid).

Arrangements have been entrusted to A H Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane St., Springhill, NS (902-597-2361) where visitation will take place on Tuesday from 6 to 8 pm.  The funeral service for Norman will be held at A H Brown Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 2 pm, Rev.
