Laurie, Late Douglas Joseph, age 86, passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Center.

Born in Springhill, NS, he was a son of the late John and Amy (Buck) Laurie.

Doug was a Coal Miner in Springhill, an avid hunter and fisherman.  He enjoyed spending time at his camp in West Lake.  Above all, Doug loved his family, and enjoyed time with them and hearing their stories.

He is survived by children Rick (Brenda), Springhill, Joey (Joanne), Springhill, Peter, Mississauga, ON, Paul, Dawson Creek, NWT, Dawn Laurie, Georgetown, ON, Bobbie-jo Henderson, Orangeville, ON, and Jody (Kathy), Rosemont, ON; 17 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren;  sister, Elsie Millard, Springhill.

He was predeceased by his wife the former Elaine O'Rourke in 1999; son Dougie; Virginia; brothers, Harold, Bill and John; sisters, Theresa in infancy, Clare Bigelow, Minnie Coleman and Amy Dowe.

Arrangements have been entrusted to A H Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane St., Springhill, NS (902-597-2361).  There will be no visitation.  A funeral service will take place on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at 2 pm, Rev. Wayne McCarther officiating.  Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Springhill.
