It is with sadness that we announce the passing of
Diana Glyn Elliott, age 87, of Amherst,
formerly of Springhill. Diana passed away at the High Crest Nursing
Home, Springhill on Tuesday, May 3, 2016.
Born in Springhill, NS, she was a daughter of the late Glyn
and Kitty (Greenhall) Jones.
Diana attended Springhill High and the RN program at Amherst
Highland View Hospital. She worked at MMRS until her retirement in
1987. She was one of the founding members of the Pugwash Yacht Club, a
member and figure skating judge of the Amherst Skating Club, and a
member of Trinity St. Stephen's Church (UCW), Cumberland Regional
Health Care Centre Auxiliary, Amherst meals on Wheels, Amherst Food
Bank, Tourism Nova Scotia, the Amherst Curling Club, and was a member
of the Travellers Singing Group.
Her passions were skating, curling, sailing, singing, bridge,
golfing, cross-country skiing and Scottish Dancing. She traveled
extensively with her sisters, family and friends. She loved her summer
home at Heather Beach, swimming with family and friends, especially
with Anna Smith.
Diana had a love for animals, especially cats; Maggie Muggins
was the last cat she owned; her grand cats, Patches, Brigid and Ben.
She also loved Alwood (Pat and Don Russell's cat) whom she looked
after when they traveled.
Diana always cared for others and would ask what she could do
to help, even when she wasn't well herself. She was a beautiful cook
and loved gardening. She will be sadly missed by her family and
friends.
Diana is survived by sons Richard (Marlene), Springhill and
John, Calgary; grandchildren Tricia, Halifax, and Terry, Calgary;
great grandchildren Alec and Anora, Calgary; sisters Faith Dixon,
Windsor, NS and Katherine (Jerry), Sackville, NB; several nieces and
nephews.
She was predeceased by her former husband Wendell
Elliott.
Arrangements have been entrusted to A H Brown Funeral Home, 5
McFarlane St., Springhill, NS (902-597-2361) where visiting hours will
take place on Friday, May 6, 2016 from 1 pm until 2 pm, followed
immediately at 2 pm by the funeral, Rev. Wayne McCarther officiating.
Burial will take place beside her parents in the Hillside Cemetery,
Springhill.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of
White Birches, and High Crest Nursing Home who cared for Diana over
the last 6 months.
Donations in memory of Diana may be made to the LA Animal
Shelter, the SPCA, or a charity of your choice.
