Vera passed away peacefully into God's
loving arms on the 15th day of April at her home at Cedarstone
Enhanced Care in Truro, Nova Scotia.
Vera was born in Leamington, Cumberland
County, a daughter of the late Famie and Thomas Smith. She
resided in Springhill during her early years and together with
Murdock, the love of her life, built their first home on the Athol
Road where she loved living with family surrounding them on Beaton's
Lane. With a downturn in the economy Vera and Murdock and
their two young children moved to Dartmouth where Murdock started his
career with Jacobson's and Vera worked for years in childcare and then
later as a Ward Clerk with the Nova Scotia Hospital. She was
a hard worker and a major contributor to the home all of her life
until her retirement.
Vera was predeceased by her late
husband, Murdock James Beaton, brothers Leonard and Kenneth
(Springhill); sister Vilda (Mrs. Robert Morton), and sisters Viva,
Joyce and Catherine Minerva, all who died in infancy. She is
survived by her son Gary (Sharon) of Dartmouth and her daughter Faye
(Tom Burke) of Truro, brother Garnet (Doreen) Atwood, Ontario and her
sister Wava Dubeau (Fred) of Trenton, Ontario, six grandchildren and
ten great grandchildren.
Vera had three loves in her life to
which she was passionate about; first her love for her late husband
Murdock, theirs was a true love story that many only dream about, they
were everything to each other and she talked about him all
the time, she brought him up three times in the week before she passed
so we are sure dad was waiting for her to take her hand, second was
the love of her children, her grandchildren and all of her family and
finally, Mom loved a great game of 45s with her friends at
Cedarstone. She may have had dementia but she was sharp as a
tack at a game of cards...make no mistake about that. Vera
was in awe of the fact that she was 90 years old...can you believe
that, I'm 90! The family wish to thank the staff of Cedarstone, Purdy
Lane for the wonderful care she received while she resided there and
also the staff of Parkland Edinburg where she lived for the past two
years. Vera was so tired at the end and needed
rest. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
Vera will be remembered as a loving
mother and a caring friend by all of her friends and family and will
be lovingly missed. A resident of Cedarstone said after her
passing, Vera was my sister, I cannot believe the grief I feel, she
was everything to me since I moved here...Mom blossomed in Cedarstone
not only for herself but she helped others.
Visitation will be at A.H.
