It is with sadness that we announce the passing of
Douglas Harry "Sonny" Lowther,
age 74, of Springhill. Sonny passed away at the Cumberland
Regional Health Care Centre on Saturday, November 21, 2015.
Born in Springhill, NS, he was a son of the late
Monson and Rose (Morrissey) Lowther.
After a
lengthy illness, Sonny retired from Correctional Service of Canada
with 30 years service. Sonny always had an entrepreneurial
spirit with lots of ideas for inventions and new businesses.
He and his brother Carman owned and operated a successful take-out
restaurant in Petawawa, Ontario called the Pink Onion. In
the 60's Sonny owned and operated one of the first public training
facilities for scuba diving in Boston Mass.
Throughout his life, Sonny enjoyed hunting and fishing. In
later years, he enjoyed taking long drives in the country, visiting
old hunting sites and his favorite fishing holes that he enjoyed in
his youth. He also loved to go with friends to the gun range
and practice shooting. Above all, Sonny enjoyed his friends
and family. He loved to reminisce about the 'old
days'.
